This is a unique model that seeks to build companionship among a group of Veteran participants where traditional roles like Provider and Beneficiary don’t exist, and where the notion of giving and receiving is blurred as positive outcomes of improved wellness and social engagement are achieved by all participants.

Defining the Problem: Veterans of all ages are more likely to suffer the negative effects of social isolation and loneliness that can otherwise be mitigated by creating modest social connections.

 

Program Goal (Abbreviated Mission Statement – Elevator Pitch: Improving wellness and quality of life through a volunteer community-based Veteran peer-to-peer support system. (define and measure an improvement in wellness and quality of life)

 

Draft Mission Statement: Visiting Veterans (www.VisitingVeterans.org) is a North Carolina based 501(C)(3) charitable non-profit seeking to better connect multi-generational Veterans through a peer-to-peer system of education, support and companionship delivered and received within a network of understanding and empathetic Veteran volunteers helping fellow Veterans achieve measurable improvements in wellness as they remain socially engaged, independent, active, in their own homes as long as possible, and treated with dignity and respect.

 

Phased Plan: (4 years)

  • Phase 1: Proof of Concept/ Entity Formation (12 Months)
  • Phase 2: Beta Test Matching Program (12 Months)
  • Phase 3a: Scale to Orange County, NC (12 Months)
  • Phase 3b: Add additional services
  • Phase 4: Scale to Alamance and Chathum Counties (Durham County?) (12 Months)

Meaningful and Measurable Metrics:

  • Validate that the Program has Defined the Correct Problem
  • Conduct a Proper and Thorough Needs Assessment
  • Large Cohort (statistically significant “n”)
  • Tracked Longitudinally
  • Measure Impact Qualitatively and Quantitatively
  • Independent (Third Party) Evaluators
  • Measure the Effective use of Resources
